Our Lord is a compassionate God, and He wants us to show compassion to our
fellow man, also.
Psa 51:1 (NRSV) Have mercy on me, O God, according to
your steadfast love; according to your abundant mercy blot out my transgressions.
Psa 103:13 (NRSV) As a father has compassion for his children,
so the LORD has compassion for those who fear him.
Psa 145:9 (NRSV) The LORD is good to all, and his compassion
is over all that he has made.
Mat 9:36 (NRSV) When he saw the crowds, he had compassion
for them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd.
2 Cor 1:3-4 (NIV) Praise be to the God and Father of our
Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who
comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble
with the comfort we ourselves have received from God.
Luke 6:35 (NRSV) But love your enemies, do good, and lend,
expecting nothing in return. Your reward will be great, and you will be children
of the Most High; for he is kind to the ungrateful and the wicked.
Eph 4:32 (NRSV) and be kind to one another, tenderhearted,
forgiving one another, as God in Christ has forgiven you.
Titus 2:3-5 (NRSV) Likewise, tell the older women to be
reverent in behavior, not to be slanderers or slaves to drink; they are to
teach what is good, so that they may encourage the young women to love their
husbands, to love their children, to be self-controlled, chaste, good managers
of the household, kind, being submissive to their husbands, so that the word
of God may not be discredited.
Phil 2:1-2 (NRSV) If then there is any encouragement in
Christ, any consolation from love, any sharing in the Spirit, any compassion
and sympathy, make my joy complete: be of the same mind, having the same
love, being in full accord and of one mind.
Col 3:12 (NRSV) As God's chosen ones, holy and beloved,
clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience.
