2020-07-01 - Dead Battery
During the last several months, my car hasn’t been driven for more than a half-hour at a time, due to the quarantine. We thought that was sufficient driving to keep the battery charged, especially since it wasn’t an old battery; however, we forgot about the little security light that flashes 24/7! Consequently, when we were about to drive it for an essential errand, we encountered quite a shock. The battery as dead as a doornail!! A jumper cable fixed it easily, but it provided a couple lessons, both practical and spiritual.
This can happen to us in our spiritual lives, as well. Our hearts can drift from God, as we decrease our time spent reading the Bible, get too busy to pray as often, don’t stay in touch with our fellow church members and other Christian family members etc. One day, we may "wake up" to find that our consciences are numb to sin, such as being okay with what worldly values consider okay, and basically confusing what is good versus what is actually evil.
Isaiah 5:20 (AMP) Woe to those who call evil good and good evil, who put darkness for light and light for darkness, who put bitter for sweet and sweet for bitter!
Our standard of good vs. bad should never be those of Hollywood or loud, influential people or groups who have tenets that are against the Bible's instructions. Rather, our standard should always and ONLY be the Bible's standards. We should read and study God's word regularly, and stay in frequent contact with God via prayer - or we could end up with a dead spiritual battery, ourselves.
All verses are from the New American Standard Version (NASB) unless otherwise noted.
