A Nation of Priests, a Holy People Continued

All of this comes down to looking at life differently from the way the world does. Many things taken for granted as acceptable are absolutely unacceptable for us as believers. Conversely, many things we should be doing as believers would be considered ”nuts“ by those around us. Remember what we have been told by Paul.

”Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.“… ”Do not be conformed to this world, but be trans- formed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.“ (2 Corinthians 5:17, Romans 12:2 ESV)

Just because the world may think we are foolish …

”Where is the one who is wise? Where is the scribe? Where is the debater of this age? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of the world?... For the foolishness of God is wiser than men, and the weakness of God is stronger than men“ (1 Corinthians 1:20, 25 ESV).

We are called to a different standard, and it is by our keeping it that the world is given the opportunity to see the Lord. How we appear isn’t the real issue. We must ask: Do we present the reality of the scripture, the reality of the presence of Christ in our lives, the reality of the indwelling of the Holy Spirit? We are called to a life of obedience, not out of fear of law, but out of love for the Father and a desire to please Him. We should work toward the day when the Lord can say:

”And he said to him, ’Well done, good servant! Because you have been faithful in a very little, you shall have authority over ten cities.“ (Luke 19:17 ESV)

”You shall not steal.“ In fact, ”Let the thief no longer steal, but rather let him labor, doing honest work with his own hands, so that he may have something to share with anyone in need.“

Then the Lord first can say: ”Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these my brothers, you did it to me.“ And we can have the joy of hearing Him say: ”Well done, good and faithful servant.“ May our lives truly reflect this reality to those we come in contact with. (Exodus 20:15; Ephesians 4:28; Matthew 25:40, 21 ESV)
