2020-05-11 - A Mother's Day Mystery
The other day, I found a package addressed to me, from a company I faintly recalled. The label had my name and the words "Happy Mother's Day. Have an amazing day!" Inside there was no note and the present, a tin of blueberry nut cookies, didn't give me an exact clue who the sender was.
My whole family enjoyed my gift. I was glad at first, but then angry I had to share my delicious cookies. If it wasn't for this mysterious gift, my family would have forgotten it would soon be Mother's Day.
All that's left of the dessert is a crumbles, empty tin, but a little bitterness is still present. I needed to replace the harmful, negative feelings with kindness. (Ephesians 4:31-32) I was letting my mind dictate a childish and petty attitude, when I should be grateful someone thought of me. I wasn't possessing great understanding (Proverbs 14:29.) Instead of being selfish, I needed to be thankful I had a family.
My dad confessed he sent the Mother's Day gift. He just forgot to include a note!
Lord, I am thankful to be a mom, and I know some dislike the May holiday. Please take away people's pain away. Be there to comfort today, and show them Your love in the mist of disappointment. In the name of Jesus' I pray, Amen.
