[CF Devotionals] 2019-11-20 - Let the Wind Carry You

- - - - - - -

The crow glided through the air, circling and twisting, allowing the afternoon gusts to take him for a ride. It was not a very strong gust, but just enough to let his wings rest more than on a usual day when he needed to gain his own momentum and earn his rest doing the same thing. I watched him for a few minutes and was a bit envious of his opportunity to be carried along without a need to think, feel, or do much. So often, we are fighting downdrafts and come off momentum in a relief-filled fall for our own landing (of sorts), forgetting who is carrying us. And such a simple and beautiful reminder I saw, as this majestic bird from the Corvidae family came closer than usual, flying solo as opposed to its typical group travel to circle searching for food (American Crow: Wikipedia.com). God leads me, even when I somehow have the impression that he just is not paying attention. He carries me through everything and can do the same for you. The reminders will come in ways he wired you to connect, and they will come. We just need to ask him to come. Let His wind carry you. “Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.” (Matthew 11:29-30 KJV)

“And God remembered Noah, and every living thing, and all the cattle that was with him in the ark: and God made a wind to pass over the earth, and the waters assuaged; The fountains also of the deep and the windows of heaven were stopped, and the rain from heaven was restrained; And the waters returned from off the earth continually: and after the end of the hundred and fifty days the waters were abated.” (Genesis 8:1-3 KJV)

“He found him in a desert land, and in the waste howling wilderness; he led him about, he instructed him, he kept him as the apple of his eye. As an eagle stirreth up her nest, fluttereth over her young, spreadeth abroad her wings, taketh them, beareth them on her wings: So the Lord alone did lead him, and there was no strange god with him.(Deuteronomy 32:10-12 KJV)

“The priests then brought the ark of the Lord’s covenant to its place in the inner sanctuary of the temple, the Most Holy Place, and put it beneath the wings of the cherubim. The cherubim spread their wings over the place of the ark and overshadowed the ark and its carrying poles. These poles were so long that their ends could be seen from the Holy Place in front of the inner sanctuary, but not from outside the Holy Place; and they are still there today.” (1 Kings 8:6-8 NIV)

“Shew thy marvellous lovingkindness, O thou that savest by thy right hand them which put their trust in thee from those that rise up against them. Keep me as the apple of the eye, hide me under the shadow of thy wings, From the wicked that oppress me, from my deadly enemies, who compass me about. (Psalm 17:7-9 KJV)

“Be merciful unto me, O God, be merciful unto me: for my soul trusteth in thee: yea, in the shadow of thy wings will I make my refuge, until these calamities be overpast.” (Psalm 57:1 KJV)

“For thou hast been a shelter for me, and a strong tower from the enemy. I will abide in thy tabernacle for ever: I will trust in the covert of thy wings. Selah. For thou, O God, hast heard my vows: thou hast given me the heritage of those that fear thy name.” (Psalm 61:3-5 KJV

“When I remember thee upon my bed, and meditate on thee in the night watches. Because thou hast been my help, therefore in the shadow of thy wings will I rejoice. My soul followeth hard after thee: thy right hand upholdeth me.” (Psalm 63:6-8 KJV)

“The disciples went and woke him, saying, “Lord, save us! We’re going to drown!” He replied, “You of little faith, why are you so afraid?” Then he got up and rebuked the winds and the waves, and it was completely calm. The men were amazed and asked, “What kind of man is this? Even the winds and the waves obey him!” (Matthew 8:25-27 NIV)
