2019-10-28 - Bullies
And everyone assembled here will know that the Lord rescues his people, but not with sword and spear. This is the Lord’s battle, and he will give you to us!” (1 Samuel 17:47 NLT)
My cat Sunset (aptly named for her orange fur) isn't as fierce as Goliath the giant, but I'd still consider her a bully, like Goliath. Sunset is the youngest feline in our house, and that doesn't stop her from towering over her older sister Starlight. She is usually the one to chase and attack Starlight, to maintain the best spot to nap and to be the first at the food dish. There are times Starlight doesn't bother fighting back. Starlight will run away rather than confront Sunset, similarly to King Saul and his men were, when faced with Goliath's taunts.
Goliath was sure of himself. Why wouldn't he be? He taunted his opponents and towered over them in stature. King Saul offered a big reward to the man who killed Goliath the giant. The incentives weren't worth it. Everyone was afraid to fight him, until David, that is.
David didn't give in to fear or weigh the odds of winning, he just focused on the Lord, believed and leaned of the Lord's strength. It worked! David took Goliath out and put him to shame! I pray Starlight will gain that same confidence and become a superhero, even if only in the pet world.
Lord, May my focus stay on You today. In the name of Jesus, I pray, Amen.
