[Calvary Chapel] 2019-10-12 - The Vicsious Cycle

- - - - - - -

The book of Joshua focuses on the nation of Israel entering and settling the Promised Land under the leadership of Joshua, who was Moses' successor. Joshua reminded the people, on several occasions, of the necessity of staying faithful to God (Yahweh). The Hebrews swore that they would serve and obey God. They made a covenant with God. As Joshua died, he was admonishing the people to remain faithful to their covenant.

The book of Judges shows the life of the Jewish people in the Promised Land after Joshua's death. This period was a cycle of two extremes. First, the people rebelled against God and followed false idols and gods. As a result, they were punished for their misdeeds. Then, they would cry out to God for help, and God would answer their cry for help with a judge to guide the people. This cycle was repeated numerous times in the book of Judges.

Are we the same today? Do we turn away from God and follow our own ways? Do we follow after the false idols of popularity, success, money, and power? Do we lose our focus on what is important? Today, we can cry out to God for forgiveness and help, and can follow the leadership of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. We have the New Covenant, which was paid for with the blood of Jesus.
