Many are familiar with the creation story depicted in the first book of the Bible (Genesis 1). Psalmist David gives a deeper picture of God's creation and God as a Creator. Psalm 104 offers evidence that the earth was not carelessly put together, nor was its function an afterthought.

The Lord:

  • laid the foundations of the earth, stable and unmovable. (verse 5)

  • covered Earth with oceans, mountains, valleys, and the seas, which allowed food to grow for man and animal. (verses 6-8, 14)

  • provided for animals, thanks to springs and valleys. (verses 10-11)

  • cared for animals, who in turn depend on God. (verses 18, 27-29)

  • created seasons, day, and night for living things' benefit. (verses 19-21)

In the first two verses of Psalm 104, David describes the Lord as dressed in sunshine. He is full of warmth, power, and majesty. This same God, who created the earth and all its marvelous details, is the same One who created us and knows us by name. He longs to spend time with you and me, and gives endless reasons to worship Him.
