[Calvary Chapel] 2019-07-20 - Winning Races

- - - - - - -

1 Corinthians 9:24-25 (NIV) Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one gets the prize? Run in such a way to get the prize. Everyone who competes in the games goes into strict training. They do it to get a crown that will not last, but we do it to get a crown that will last forever.

The Tour de France bicycle race is now in progress. Over three weeks, 176 competitors will travel over 2100 miles in their quest for the coveted prize of the yellow jersey. Only one cyclist will win the crown.

Each cyclist has trained for months to prepare for this arduous trek. The racers watch what they eat and drink. They have to conserve their energy. Each day is another challenge. They climb mountains, go through forests, traverse farm land, and travel through cities.

Even though only one man will win, each competitor that makes it to the end is truly a winner. He has achieved the goal of finishing the world’s toughest race.

Similarly, as Christians, we are running a race. We are faced with obstacles which sometimes seem like mountains. We train for our journey by studying the Bible, listening to the Word being preached, and praying. EAt the end of our journey through life, we receive the prize of eternal life in heaven. Are you ready for the ultimate race?
