[CF Devotionals] 2019-07-08 - Happy Endings

- - - - - - -

"… and they lived happily ever after."

The above statement was painted on a decorative sign I saw recently. The saying is synonymous with fairy tale endings, depicting the hero and heroine having survived horrendous turmoil, and who will now live in happiness. Of course, this happiness is not found in the fairy tale itself, but left to the reader or viewer to imagine.

It was the (…) dot dot dot portion of the sign that got me thinking. The statement isn't just for fairy tales, but could be a blanket statement for those who become Christians.

The (…) dot dot dot represents a person's life before accepting Christ - all the past sins, mistakes, and moments alienated from God. When we accept God as the Lord of our lives and become a Christian, our past is wiped away by Jesus' death on the cross. He died so we may live. "All of us have sinned and fallen short of God's glory. But God treats us much better than we deserve, and because of Christ Jesus, he freely accepts us and sets us free from our sins." (Romans 3:23-24 CEV)

In a sense, we too live happily ever after. As a Christian, we can look forward to living eternally in Heaven. While on Earth, we can also live blissfully, knowing God is now in control, and we have Him to lean on when difficulties come. Being a Christian does not mean that roadblocks and hard times won't happen, far from it. It means that God equips us to handle the unhappy moments in life.

Lord, Help me be patient for my "happily ever after." May You guide me in the story You prepared for me. In Jesus' name I pray, Amen
