[CF Devotionals] 2019-05-05 - Exodus: The Lord Provides A Memorial

- - - - - - -

This brings us back to our original starting point, own need to be totally dependent on the Lord, who wants to provide for our physical and spiritual needs and will, if we will only let Him. Some say religion is a crutch, but for the spiritual cripple, all of humanity, God is exactly what we need.

“… I will rejoice in the LORD; I will take joy in the God of my salvation. GOD, the Lord, is my strength” (Habakkuk 3:18-19 ESV).

Now do you have any additional ideas as to how we can focus on letting the Lord have control over our lives on a day-to-day basis? Are there any ways we can help our fellow Christians in learning dependency on Him? How does our responsibility to one another fit in this picture? What can you do, this week, to look to God in all things?

To summarize this chapter, God provided all the basic needs of Israel: water, food and rest. Additionally, He provided for future generations by establishing a memorial, so they would know what He did for their fathers.

As for us, we also have a memorial, the Bread and the Cup, to remind us of what the living Christ provided for us. Just as the Lord provided for the physical needs of Israel so He sometimes chooses to meet our physical needs. More importantly, He meets our spiritual needs, through Christ the Bread of Life, through the Holy Spirit, often referred to as the Water of Life, and through His written word which also serves as both Bread and Water. And so we have more to be grateful for, than we can ever appreciate.

Once again, the recognition of who the Lord is and what He has done for us should lead to the desire to praise, trust and depend on Him.

Psalm 95
“Come, let us sing for joy to the LORD;
let us shout aloud to the Rock of our salvation.
Let us come before him with thanksgiving and extol him with music and song.
For the LORD is the great God, the great King above all gods.
In his hand are the depths of the earth, and the mountain peaks belong to him.
The sea is his, for he made it,
and his hands formed the dry land.
Come, let us bow down in worship,
let us kneel before the LORD our Maker;
for he is our God
and we are the people of his pasture, the flock under his care.”
