2019-04-01 - Being Replaced
I've been replaced in my daughter's life. When she was younger, I was replaced by a stuffed animal. My child would whisper to and hug the semi-cute furball. Back then, she wouldn't mind holding my hand to cross the street; now, my daughter rolls her eyes at the suggestion. I realized this is normal in the aging process, but it still hurts. I knew the Bible didn't have an exact answer to my parenting question, but I needed some comfort and insight, and the Bible is where I generally look. A familiar verse in Isaiah showed me there can be joy when things change. The prophet Isaiah said, “Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness." Isaiah 43:18-19 NIV)
I don't know exactly what to expect, living with a daughter whose age is now in the double digits, but the outlook looks like a bumpy ride. I know I will need a heavy armor of understanding and wisdom. There is good news, if I focus on it and not the demands of motherhood. God is doing a new thing. He is making a way in the wilderness! He will equip us, if we focus on His abilities and powers and not just the problem at hand.
How do you handle being replaced?
Lord, My humanness is showing. Help me not become easily frustrated. Show me how that looks practically, in everyday life, and when I fail and hurt someone's feelings accidentally, may forgiveness diffuse the situation. In Jesus' name I pray, Amen.
