2019-03-04 - Secret Weapon
It's extremely difficult to be content during a sickness. At least, it is for me. My daughter recently tested positive for the influenza virus. Two days later, I also contracted the flu. My daughter would moan in pain, and I'd moan to the Lord, asking how long she would have to suffer. I didn't hear an audible answer, but it took nine days for her body to be completely fever-free. I don't know why healing eluded us, but it was temporary. Currently, my daughter is happily coloring, with only an occasional cough to remind us of what God brought us through.
During our fight with the flu it was a hard and painful time. I wasn't utilizing my secret weapon: God's strength inside me. Paul reveals the secret of contentment. He was "able to do all things through Him who strengthens me." (Philippians 4:13 HCSB)
Paul told believers that he "learned to be content in whatever circumstances" he was in. (Philippians 4:11 HCSB) Contentment isn't natural or automatic for us mortals. It's not easy to be satisfied in hard situations. That's why God provides His power, clout, and stamina when we need it.
Lord, May I be able to be content in whatever happens in life. Please have my back, in the overwhelming moments. May it be a joy to call on You and know You will take care of things, especially when I don't know how. Help me understand Your timetable, and may I not give up waiting on You. In the name of Jesus', Amen.
