2019-01-20 - Exodus ~ The Quality of Faith
Pharaoh on the Chase
The Lord prepared the people for what was to come by, bringing them up to a position that puts them opposite the sea, in preparation for their crossing. But the Lord wasn’t through with Pharaoh yet. Which, by the way, must have been disconcerting to Moses. Anyway, God intended to harden the heart of Pharaoh one last time, causing him to follow after the Hebrews, with the intent of forcing them to return to Egypt.
As we have previously seen, the reason for all of this is God’s glory. He was giving Egypt one last thing to consider, so there would be no question that He was the one God, over all.
Pharaoh awoke, as if from a dream. “What were we thinking about? Why did we let the people go?” It probably didn’t help matters that the Hebrews “looted” the country. So the King gathered his chariots and pursued the people. He chased with his army. He still wanted his slaves. This was the desire of his heart, and the Lord would not let him function differently.
Exodus study to be continued.
