Matt 25:41"Then He will also say to those on His left, 'Depart from Me, accursed ones, into the eternal fire which has been prepared for the devil and his angels; (NASB)

What terrible words to hear spoken, even if they are not directed to you.

Jesus is speaking here telling His disciples about one of the judgments that will happen after time concludes. The sheep, possibly a reference connecting believers with the Lamb, and the goats are divided and judgment is passed on both groups. The sheep will be invited into glory. Then they will listen as the others are dismissed into eternal punishment. There will likely be people in that doomed group that each of us knows.

There will be no appeal. This is the highest court and the gavel has come down.

Those who scoffed and ridiculed others who believed in something we could not see, feel or touch - that there was something more after this physical life is extinguished will see that they were so horribly wrong. The heartbreak for us will be to see them marched off knowing there will be no end of this sentence, no parole. There will be tears on both sides of the aisle.

I also believe that the Lord will be crying too. We were created - His poema (gk.), His workmanship - to have fellowship with for eternity. Adam and Eve fell in the garden and God made a way. The judges and the prophets were sent, and we chaffed and rebelled and God was patient with us as a race. Jesus came and died in our places to break the power of sin and death, and some still refuse the free gift. He healed the sick, turned water into wine and raised the dead in full public view, and even some who saw it refused to believe. God raised up ministers that traveled to tell the good news for mankind. Many scoffed.

The work was done on the cross and at the empty tomb and given as a gift, and in some refused. The Godhead will have done everything possible and some will arrive at the judgment condemned.

We are Heaven's ambassadors to this world. Not just the Billy Sunday's and Billy Graham's, but us too. Some stand on street corners and speak, others speak quietly with both friends and people they have only just met, others live their lives and work their jobs so that others around them ask what is different about them. When the questions come, have an answer. When lies are told about you, have lived so that no one will believe them. This may be the first conversation this questioner has that begins their walk to the cross and back to their gift of salvation.

2 Tim 4:1-3 I solemnly charge you in the presence of God and of Christ Jesus, who is to judge the living and the dead, and by His appearing and His kingdom: 2 preach the word; be ready in season and out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort, with great patience and instruction. 3 For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but wanting to have their ears tickled, they will accumulate for themselves teachers in accordance to their own desires, (NASB)

That day will be one of the last sad days believers will know - a terrible time. Having people around you who know the Savior because your life, your ambassadorship, made a difference will make it a little less sad. That will be worth more than all the stars in the heavens on that day.

Help us to be a lighthouses to those You place around us. Amen.

Grace & Peace,
