2018-11-20 - Thanksgiving
Compiled by Janice Moser
In the United States, we are preparing to celebrate Thanksgiving this week. Though many of us look forward to the more secular traditions such as parades and football, we also all can be intentional about focusing on God’s blessings to us during the past year. We aren’t alone. Other countries have their own Thanksgiving holidays, including Nigeria, Ghana, Canada and Germany.
Today, we so sometimes do at CF Devotionals, we present passages directly from the Bible, to speak on the issue.
Enter His gates with thanksgiving
And His courts with praise.
Give thanks to Him, bless His name.
1 Chronicles 16:34-35 (MSG)
Give thanks to God–he is good
and his love never quits.
Say, “Save us, Savior God,
round us up and get us out of these godless places,
So we can give thanks to your holy Name,
and bask in your life of praise.”
Blessed be God, the God of Israel,
from everlasting to everlasting.
Psalms 138 (MSG)
1-3 Thank you! Everything in me says “Thank you!”
Angels listen as I sing my thanks.
I kneel in worship facing your holy temple
and say it again: “Thank you!”
Thank you for your love,
thank you for your faithfulness;
Most holy is your name,
most holy is your Word.
The moment I called out, you stepped in;
you made my life large with strength.
When they hear what you have to say, God,
all earth’s kings will say “Thank you.”
They’ll sing of what you’ve done:
“How great the glory of God!”
And here’s why: God, high above, sees far below;
no matter the distance, he knows everything about us.
When I walk into the thick of trouble,
keep me alive in the angry turmoil.
With one hand
strike my foes,
With your other hand
Finish what you started in me, God.
Your love is eternal–don’t quit on me now.
Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which you were called in one body; and be thankful.
