[CF Devotionals] 2018-08-20 - Strong and Mighty Are We

- - - - - - -

The Oak is a glorious tree. These trees are prominent in the Old Testament.

An oak tree was:

  • strong and offered shade. (Hosea 4:13, Amos 2:9)
  • where an angel first met Gideon. (Judges 6:11)
  • used to describe us! (Isaiah 61:3)
  • the death site of wanna-be king Absalom. (2 Samuel 18:10)
  • where the Lord appeared to Abraham. (Genesis 13:8)
  • used as a burial location. (Genesis 35:8, 1 Chronicles 10:12)

It's this last fact I want to discuss further. If you've ever experienced poverty, depression, fear, anxiety, oppression, or heartbreak, you and I get to trade these unwanted ailments for some relief.

So they will be called the trees of righteousness [strong and magnificent, distinguished for integrity, justice, and right standing with God], The planting of the Lord, that He may be glorified. (Isaiah 61:3 AMP)

We are no longer bound and sick, but are a tree of righteousness. The image of a righteous oak tree is symbolic of our life in Christ. God plants these desirable things in our lives (magnificence, integrity, etc.), which reflects His goodness and glorifies the Lord.

Let's start declaring the truth found in Isaiah 61:3. We can put faith in God's words. May they not be forgotten or questioned by people's comments, our thoughts, or situations.

Lord, We will see ourselves as strong and not weak. I pray there will be an outpouring of praise to You, for planting life in us, so we may grow to our potential and, in turn, may glorify You. In the name of Jesus, I pray mightily, Amen!
