2018-08-15 - Journal Wall Cloud
As I stood in front of the plethora of opportunities of word to meet paper, I had trouble, feeling as though I were in a bookstore. It seemed more like a gift shop in an airport. People were walking by, some were in groups or couples, others alone but carrying packages, and stopping sequentially as others approached to pass by them. The sounds of “excuse me” by a man with a large square white bag with a Finish Line logo on it, or “we can look at the train books in a few minutes!” as a woman walks by with a child in tow, or “crunch, crunch, crunch” from a snack bag of a teenager bouncing by alone, perhaps on her work break or just confused about where she was about to enter. My quiet place to look for a journal was ruined by the rearrangement of one or two gondolas. The shelving used to be organized so people had to walk around the spot, and now there was a journal wall crowd on their way to the restrooms of the store. It was frustrating and disconcerting, having all of them walking by. Between the eating while approaching the facilities or even inside them, the odd conversation snippets, and the body language as some exited, this was leading to concerns about lack of hygiene. After all the distractions, I found just the right haven for a friend to store her valuable life thoughts, at least I hope so. I also learned a valuable lesson.
Many of life’s Journal Wall Crowd moments are the ones that become the muse for the paper between the binding to be used and the characters who find a place in people’s hearts. Those walking past me or you, are not the distraction - but the point.
Are there any perceived distractions in your life, that need more attention? So much to learn from observation and focusing off ourselves, to gain perspective about what God has in mind for us. So very thankful for His wisdom, understanding, forgiveness, and opportunities to live out those gifts in the way he designed me. How about you?
“Love must be sincere. Hate what is evil; cling to what is good. Be devoted to one another in love. Honor one another above yourselves. Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervor, serving the Lord.” (Romans 12:9-11 NIV)
