2018-07-16 - Decisions, Decisions
I have a decision to make, and I'm not sure what to do. If I go with my gut, I will upset people, lose some acquaintances, and let down others. On the other hand, if I keep my commitment, I will be helping others and making them happy, while I'm overwhelmed and frustrated.
I wish you readers could offer an opinion. I have only told my problem to a few family members, hoping they'd agree with me right away, or at least sympathize. They just listened. Usually, these people give unsolicited advice, but this time, when I needed it, they were silent.
The Bible doesn't have an exact answer to my particular situation, but Proverbs 3 comes pretty close. It states: "Trust God from the bottom of your heart; don’t try to figure out everything on your own. Listen for God’s voice in everything you do, everywhere you go; he’s the one who will keep you on track." (verses 5-6 MSG) When we have to settle on a choice, that's the time to get quiet, and to ask God's opinion. When we include the Lord in our decision-making process, we are guaranteed the correct response.
It goes on to say that those who acquire wisdom are blessed. Wisdom "is more precious than rubies; nothing you desire can compare with her. Long life is in her right hand; in her left hand are riches and honor. Her ways are pleasant ways, and all her paths are peace. She is a tree of life to those who take hold of her; those who hold her fast will be blessed." (Proverbs 3:13-18 NIV)
When we're in a predicament and don't know what to do, may we turn to the Lord first. He sees the whole picture. He knows the negatives and positives of the situation. God knows best.
Lord, grant me Your peace in making decisions, so I make the right choice. In Jesus' name I pray, Amen.
