Have you ever doubted something or someone? Have their promises seemed to be too much to believe? Have you ever doubted God?
John the Baptist was sent to proclaim the Good News of the coming Messiah. John served God in a very public ministry. He attracted many people to hear his message. In fact, Jesus was baptized by John at the beginning of Jesus' public ministry. John was later put in prison by King Herod, for speaking out against the king’s sinful lifestyle. While languishing in prison, John was experiencing doubts. He even wondered whether Jesus was really the promised Messiah, so he sent his loyal followers to question Jesus.
Jesus sent a message back to John. Jesus told John's disciples to report back about what Jesus was doing. Jesus was healing the blind, lame, and sick. Dead people were being restored to life. The Good News was being preached.
Doubts are natural. Everyone has them. When you have doubts, look at what God is doing in your life. Look at the blessings that He has given you. Consider what God is doing in the world. Look at the wonders of His creation. God is at work in your life and in the world. His love will overcome your doubts.
