2018-05-14 - Smile!
Even a child is known by his doings, whether his work be pure, and whether it be right. Proverbs 20:11 (KJV)
"Is she a good baby? Is she happy?" I was surprised how many people asked me this question when my daughter was a baby. Even strangers shopping in the same store cared about my child’s well-being. I am thankful I could truthfully answer their question affirmatively. Yes, she was a good baby.
When I heard another child’s scream from the next store aisle I cringed and told my sleeping baby, "Please, don't do that when you are older." Why did I say that? Because I'm human. It was the reaction Solomon identified in Proverbs 20. “A man’s conscience is the Lord’s search light exposing his hidden motives.” (Verse 27 TLB)
Certainly, I want my daughter to feel comfortable expressing her feelings. Did I want to hide a tantrum out of embarrassment or frustration? Could it be the thought of her being upset or not knowing how to handle it? Or is it the belief in today's Scripture, Proverbs 20:11 (above)? I would hate for my child to be known for the occasional public outburst instead of her easygoing nature and contagious smile.
I love my daughter's smile. It is in the moments of her being content and happy that all the day's heaviness escapes from my shoulders and is released into thin air. It is in these times I don't have to be a mom. I can enjoy being one.
Lord, Whatever the situation, grant me wisdom to handle it. In Jesus' name I pray, Amen.
