[CF Devotionals] 2018-03-31 - The Good Friday Parade

- - - - - - -

Luke 23:26-27 As they led him away, they seized Simon from Cyrene, who was on his way in from the country, and put the cross on him and made him carry it behind Jesus. A large number of people followed him, including women who wailed for him.

On Palm Sunday, Jesus was the grand marshal of the triumphant parade into the Holy City of Jerusalem. The crowds threw down their cloaks and cut down palm branches to place in his path. The crowds greeted Jesus as the promised Messiah. Less than a week later, Jesus was led in a different type of parade. He had been sentenced to death. People were lining the streets, as the Roman soldiers led him to the hill of Calvary. Jesus was struggling to carry his heavy cross, when Simon of Cyrene was pressed into service, to carry the cross. Many jeered Jesus as he walked along, but some wailed for him. What a difference in just a few days!

Jesus' Good Friday Parade ended at Calvary, where he was crucified. He willingly died there for our sins. His sacrifice and subsequent resurrection enable us to march in the happy Easter parade. Friday's grief will turn into Easter joy. Our sins are forgiven. We have new lives. We have a new grand marshal in Heaven. Have you accepted Jesus? Can you happily march in the Easter parade?
