2018-03-10 - The Big Question
Mark 8:29 "But what about you?" he asked. "Whom do you say I am?" Peter answered, "You are the Christ."
Jesus selected his twelve disciples from various walks of life. Some were fishermen, and some were businessmen. Levi was a tax collector. These disciples observed Jesus healing many people. They heard him preaching to the masses. They were there when Jesus performed miracles, such as, turning a few fish and loaves into a meal for over 5,000 people. Jesus taught his disciples about his mission. The crowds were drawn to him; they wanted to know who he was, and what he was doing.
Jesus used this as a teaching opportunity for his disciples. He asked them, "Who do you say that I am?" Did they understand whom they were following? Did they get it?
Peter answered, "You are the Christ." Another word for Christ is Messiah--The Anointed One. The Messiah was the long-awaited Savior of the Hebrew people. Peter recognized Jesus as the Christ, the Messiah.
