[Calvary Chapel] 2018-02-22 - Billy Graham ~ Gone Home

John 14:3 If I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself, that where I am, there you may be also.

This morning (February 21, 2018), at the age of 99, Billy Graham left this life for Heaven. For those who have given our hearts and lives to Jesus Christ as our Savior from sin and death this will be home for us too someday.

Billy Graham was ordained in 1939 at the age of 21. He was a confidant and counselor to twelve Presidents as well as other world leaders. Between crusades at churches, stadiums and other venues, it is estimated that Graham preached the Gospel of Jesus Christ to more than 200 million people. It is unknown how many lives he touched with his call for anyone who wanted to come forward at one of the various gatherings to accept Jesus as their Savior and Lord. The impact Dr. Graham had on the world is probably not quantifiable.

I watched a number of his televised meetings back in the mid-to-late 1970's. His words, and explanations about the love of God for this fallen world gripped my heart and compelled me to find out more. God put a few friends in my path that removed any hesitance I had - summer of 1976.

Billy Graham had a calling to preach the Gospel to anyone who would listen. Was he perfect? He would be the first to say that was not so. He had a few stumbles along the way. But overall his life was lived following his Lord and his calling.

I've read a good deal on the man and the history of him and the organization that bears his name. While some will decry some of his actions, I have read his reactions to those events and know that if anything questionable happened it was discussed and policy was made to never allow it to happen again. Apologies were made if needed. Would that we call could use that as a guidepost to follow.

I can only be thankful for the man who followed his calling. He impacted my life and the lives of so many others for his Lord in ways that will never be able to be measured.

Lord Jesus - thank You for the life of Billy Graham. I'm thankful to know that You met him at his arrival at New Jerusalem and he is home from his travels and trials in this world. You placed him across my path so that I could learn about your love, and my need that You had filled at the cross and in your resurrection. Many millions share the same gratitude. We love You, Lord. Amen.

Grace & Peace,
