[CF Devotionals] 2018-02-03 - The Light

- - - - - - -

John 8:12 When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, " I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life."

Last year, Hurricane Irma passed near our house - packing strong winds and heavy rain. Many trees were knocked down, pulling down power lines. We were among the millions in our state to lose electrical power for several days. During the daylight hours, we opened our curtains and let the sun provide our source of light. At night, we relied on a battery-powered lantern and our flashlights to see. Several times, out of habit, I would walk into a room and flip the power switch. Then I would realize that it wouldn't work without electricity. I realized how dependent that I was on a dependable source of light.

Jesus tells us that He is the light of the world. He is the most dependable, never failing source of light. He shows us the way we should live. He guides us in the darkness that surrounds us--sin and evil. When we rely on His light, we can see the path to take.

He has promised to lead the way for us. Will you follow His light?
