On walks with our dog Shiloh, we must stay very alert every moment, for she doesn’t miss a thing. She sniffs everything and often tries to put things in her mouth.. She can find treasures anywhere. Watching her look for “treasures” this past week reminded me of the treasure hunts we held during times that Richard and I were asked to fill in as interim youth directors. We have never felt called to do the work permanently, but we were glad to help between pros. We tried to make the hunts challenging, without being so difficult as to be discouraging.

What if we lived each day as a day to go on a Treasure Hunt for God’s blessings? The treasures might come in the form of a kind word from a friend, a hug from a spouse, a new way to look at something, the fun of watching one’s dog play in the snow, a bit of good news - or in a myriad of forms. I encourage you to join me this week, in trying to find treasure(s) every day - treasures that God places on our paths. If you do this, I would love to hear what you find.

Philippians 4:8 (NEV)
And now, dear brothers and sisters, one final thing. Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise.
