[CF Devotionals] 2017-11-15 - Beautiful Change

- - - - - - -

Each year I look forward to and am enamored by autumn beauty, and this year has been no exception. Our summer in the valley nestled within the Blue Ridge Mountains was over all quite dry this year. I was a bit concerned those conditions would dull the colors of the leaves, yet I have been pleasantly surprised and appreciative of many trees with stunning contrasts. Also, some cooler days more suddenly following some windy ones just ahead of it have made many blankets of leaves beneath their former homes, creating a reflection of color under those branches. This year, I believe that God is specifically showing me how change can be beautiful. He’s always drawn me to this particular season of transformation, but due to a few big changes going on in life for me, I think this being the season that particularly warms my heart so it helps add a positive spin on a time that could easily be even more difficult without Him. It’s His way of showing me he is right here with me and not going anywhere. Unlike with the leaves, changes going on in our minds, lives in general, and those things having to do working hard physically for so long do not always register as beauty and goodness to us, as they unfold. I’m very grateful that in His time, God will show me the beauty of life’s changes I don’t always understand. I am also grateful for the change that will come when He receives me at my appointed time. His plan and the means by which he achieves it are perfect.

"Of old hast thou laid the foundation of the earth: and the heavens are the work of thy hands. They shall perish, but thou shalt endure: yea, all of them shall wax old like a garment; as a vesture shalt thou change them, and they shall be changed: But thou art the same, and thy years shall have no end.” (Psalm 102:25-27)

"Daniel answered and said, Blessed be the name of God for ever and ever: for wisdom and might are his: And he changeth the times and the seasons: he removeth kings, and setteth up kings: he giveth wisdom unto the wise, and knowledge to them that know understanding: He revealeth the deep and secret things: he knoweth what is in the darkness, and the light dwelleth with him.” (Daniel 2:20-22)

"Now this I say, brethren, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God; neither doth corruption inherit incorruption. Behold, I shew you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed, in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.” (1 Corinthians 15:50-52)

“… To proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor
  and the day of vengeance of our God,
to comfort all who mourn, and provide for those who grieve in Zion–
to bestow on them a crown of beauty
  instead of ashes, the oil of joy instead of mourning,
and a garment of praise instead of a spirit of despair.
They will be called oaks of righteousness,
  a planting of the Lord for the display of his splendor. They will rebuild the ancient ruins
  and restore the places long devastated;
they will renew the ruined cities
  that have been devastated for generations.” (Isaiah 61:2-4)

“One thing I ask from the Lord, this only do I seek: that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to gaze on the beauty of the Lord and to seek him in his temple.” (Psalm 27:4)

“He hath made every thing beautiful in his time: also he hath set the world in their heart, so that no man can find out the work that God maketh from the beginning to the end.” (Ecclesiastes 3:11)
