What snapshots and thoughts do people have, when your name enters their minds? Dictionary.com defines the word image this way:
image (noun) a physical likeness or representation of a person, animal, or thing, photographed, painted, sculptured, or otherwise made visible. Or (noun) a mental representation; idea; conception.
I was looking for some information in the newspaper after learning of a sweet lady’s passing, and started reading the obituaries of other people. I found it interesting, learning about them in thinking about how and why their families made their choices of photos and words chosen to describe their loved ones. Some descriptions focused on a career, including their places of study, some mainly listed the family members gone before them and those surviving the person, and others talked about things that mattered to their loved one and ways those who also knew them could honor their memory via contributions, etc. All of the descriptions gave some sort of snapshot of the person to which they were attributed. I particularly enjoyed one such tribute that included a photo from probably the lady’s young adulthood, and then another in her later years. It was like getting a chance to peek into her life for a little while with a bit more clarity, and the eyes tell stories way beyond the printed page can fully describe. Along with who we are, it also includes who we love, what we believe and how we live.
Sometimes in our lives, we have years to share with people, and with others, we have only a matter of moments. I want whatever time I have, in connection with others, to impart the love of a Savior so that I may properly honor God. I often fall short of my goal, but having Him on my side during the journey gives me the strength to continue each new day with purpose. I’m very grateful.
“And have put on the new man, which is renewed in knowledge after the image of him that created him.” (Colossians 3:10)
