2017-06-03 - One Determined Woman
“Dear woman, why do you involve me?” Jesus replied, “My time has not yet come.” John 2:4
A dilemma arose at a wedding celebration Mary, Jesus, and His disciples were attending. There were no drinks left to serve the guests. Mary did not want anything to spoil the festive occasion. According to Mary, if anyone could fix the problem, it would be her son Jesus. She took the initiative and went to Jesus with the issue. His response wasn’t what she predicted.
He asked His mother why she was concerning Him. It wasn’t His time for doing miracles. Did Jesus forget Mary wasn’t privy to His miracle-performing schedule? Jesus’ remarks did not faze Mary. They didn’t deter her from finding a solution. She informed the wedding workers to do whatever Jesus told them. Her aim wasn’t putting Jesus in a spot.
Although it may not have been what Jesus had planned, He miraculously made water turn into wine. The wine even tasted better than earlier batches. What a remarkable sight to behold. This physical spectacle signified Jesus’ first public miracle.
Lord, Let me know when to offer advice and when to remain silent. Amen.
