2017-01-05 - Looking Forward
Phil 3:13 Brethren, I do not regard myself as having laid hold of it yet; but one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and reaching forward to what lies ahead,
Many say last year was a difficult year. In many ways it was. The bitterly contentious Presidential election in America is an example. Storms, natural disasters, terrorism, refugees running from danger into danger trying to save their lives. Many who tried to run to safety have died in the process. The new year has raised hope in many. A fresh start to resolve some problems perhaps. We shall see what the new year holds.
The Apostle Paul encourages believers to look forward. Not so much to a fresh start, though God's mercies are new every morning, but to the race that we run. The life we live looking forward to Heaven and home while trying to bring as many people with us as we can. Striving against the old life that struggles to rise up against us as we reach for the high calling we are given in the new life in Jesus Christ.
Paul suffered many things and still encourages us from the pages of his letter to the Philippian church.
Phil 2:14-16 Do all things without grumbling or disputing; so that you will prove yourselves to be blameless and innocent, children of God above reproach in the midst of a crooked and perverse generation, among whom you appear as lights in the world, holding fast the word of life, so that in the day of Christ I will have reason to glory because I did not run in vain nor toil in vain.
Lord Jesus - Be the Light to our path as we walk and run forward with the Gospel, the Good News, that You left for us to share with others. Keep our eyes on the race and the finish line. Amen.
Grace & Peace,
