2016-12-17 - What are You Looking for at Christmas?
John 11:7-9 As John's disciples were leaving, Jesus began to speak to the crowd about John: "What did you go out into the desert to see? A reed swayed by the wind? If not, what did you go out to see? A man dressed in fine clothes? No, those who wear fine clothes are in kings' palaces. Then what did you go out to see? A prophet? Yes, I tell you, and more than a prophet."
John the Baptist came to prepare the way for Jesus' ministry. John was a rough-dressed man with a simple message--Repent! John drew the attention of all the people--the rich and the poor, the lower class and the elite, the religious and the religious leaders. All these people came to hear John, and they responded to his message. Yet John was the lead-in act for Jesus. John was the warm-up before the main show.
Advent and the weeks before Christmas are just a warm-up before the arrival of Jesus. We spend weeks preparing for Christmas. We plan, make lists, shop, and decorate. We spend our time, thoughts, and financial resources preparing for Christmas. And on Christmas day, we focus on Jesus Christ the Savior.
What are you looking for this Christmas? Are you looking for presents, family time, and festivities? Are you looking for a big time? Are you looking for Jesus?
