2016-12-05 - Prayer Time
After he had dismissed them, he went up on a mountainside by himself to pray. Later that night, he was there alone. (Matthew 14:23)
As soon as the conditions were favorable, Jesus went up on a mountain to pray. I never pictured the Savior a mountain climber. Sometimes like with mountaineering, we have to work hard and climb, to reach a higher point in our Christian walk. When we make the effort to pray and read the Bible, we gain strength and perspective from our Creator and Protector.
Jesus had favorite spots. He chose the wilderness, a deserted place (Luke 5:16), a solitary place (Mark 1:35), a mountain (Luke 6:12, 9:28-29) and a garden. (Luke 22:41-44) These places all had one thing in common: They were private.
Where is the best place for you to pray? Regardless of the surroundings, it's important to take a moment and put everything aside, to talk to God. It's difficult, with the demands of life, but those demands won't get easier without time with the Lord. He has a way of changing our countenance, and giving us hope and delight in each step.
Lord, Thank You that we always have access to you, regardless of where we are. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.
