“This is what the Lord, the God of Israel, says: I brought you up out of Egypt, out of the land of slavery. I rescued you from the hand of the Egyptians. And I delivered you from the hand of all your oppressors; I drove them out before you and gave you their land. I said to you, ‘I am the Lord your God (Judges 6:8-9 NIV)
One night I felt God leading me to tear down my dad’s altar to Baal, god of thunder. In its place I was to build an altar to God. I did the task but did the demolition at night for fear of my family and community. In the morning when people saw Baal’s altar demolished it didn’t take them long to come up with me as a culprit. The people demanded I die. I thought God said He would use me?
My father Joash came to my defense and told the people if Baal was a god he wouldn’t need defending from mortals. Phew. Thanks, Dad. I wouldn’t doubt God’s power again. At least not right away.
Lord, I want to sense Your love and presence, but I don’t know how. Please help. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.
