According to homedit.com (http://www.homedit.com/scents-of-autumn/) there are eleven ways to bring the smell of autumn to your home. The ideas are anything from candles to baking, to homemade potpourri on the stove, or in a dry pack of fresh herbs. Personally, how I fully feel like autumn has arrived are the smells of the smoke from a fireplace, and leaves having fallen from the trees as I am walking outside on a crisp sweatshirt kind of day. Odd how when thinking about those comforting odors, we realize those are ones involving nature in some form of decomposition, but it’s true. One time is ending, and another is beginning.

Autumn is something that happens each year, and many of us look forward to the seasons changing, as well as the many of the other extras making it special to each of us. What makes it special to you? Candles, pumpkin bread, quality time decorating with loved ones, infuser oils, road trips to see family and friends, traditions of games with friends and family, your aunt’s fresh baked apple pie or molasses cookies? Frankly, whether good or bad, scents in particular can be pleasant reminders of special times and things we enjoy, or they can be reminders or tough times or difficult relationships.

What little things come to mind, from the moment you realized you needed something other than yourself to get through it all? Do you remember whom you were with? Do you recall where you were or what time of year? I remember it was summer time, and there were lots of changes happening on a personal level in my life. I imagine the changes simultaneously going on had a lot to do with my realization of needing a savior. And so my journey of a different kind of comfort began. I still like the smell of fallen leaves, the sound that happens as the wind gently whisks them to the ground, and the smell of a wood fireplace. However, the comfort of knowing my soul is well-cared for with the love of a Savior, is far more lasting and wonderful. I’m so grateful for my Father who cared enough to supply all my needs, according to the riches of his glory.
