[CF Devotionals] 2015-10-22 - The Doors

- - - - - - -

Today, I've been pondering the doors. No I'm not thinking about Jim Morrison, although I have had a little rock-n-roll on the brain.

Matthew 7:13-14 (NKJV)

“Enter by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and there are many who go in by it. 14 Because narrow is the gate and difficult is the way which leads to life, and there are few who find it.

A few weeks ago, I saw a shirt that read, "The fact that there's a Highway to Hell and only a Stairway to Heaven says a lot about anticipated traffic numbers." The shirt rather cleverly mixed rock songs with an allusion to this passage of scripture. Over in the Gospel of John are recorded two claims made by Jesus. In John 10:11, Jesus says, "I am the way." In John 14:6, he says, "I am the gate." There are, in fact, many other ways and doors - but alas, they are all on the broad way. The doors are propped open by false prophets. Sadly, the false prophets and those entering the doors they speak of believe there way is the right way. Some religions say any door will do, as long as you are sincere. Others say their door is the exclusive door. Often complicating things, traditional Christian churches often make it sound as though they have a unique door that other Christians somehow miss.

As Christians, we are challenged with lovingly sharing the truth about our doors and the others. That is no small task, and we do it, while knowing that most will not choose the correct door - but still we must try. We must witness to all we can, trusting God to call some to him.

Keep trying! Do not give up.
