2015-07-04 - A Nation Blessed by God
Psalm 33:12--"Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord."
As we prepare to celebrate our nation's heritage on the Fourth of July, we look back to our country's founding. Historian Paul Johnson says that the American Revolution was "a religious event." Founding father and early United States President John Adams said, "The general principles on which the fathers achieved independence were the general principles of Christianity." The Declaration of Independence contains several references to God as our "Creator," "Supreme Judge," and "Divine Providence."
Over two hundred years ago, our ancestors put their faith in God to guide our fledgling nation. We have so much for which to be thankful. Let us think of those things, and as Americans, let us once again put its faith and trust in God. "Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord."
All scripture references are from the New International Version (NIV) unless otherwise noted.
