2015-06-27 - Hold onto the Truth
John 8:31-32--"Jesus said, "If you hold to my teaching, you are my really my disciples. Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free."
The Apostle John wrote three letters to the early church, addressing the issue of false teachers who were spreading bad information to their listeners. John wanted to warn the early Christians to be on guard against these teachers, who he called antichrists. The best way to protect themselves was to be grounded in the truth about Jesus Christ. They needed to hold onto the Truth.
Today false teachers still exist preaching easy success, money, and prosperity. How do we know what is true teaching and what is false teaching? We need to ground ourselves in the Truth, and we find the Truth in the Bible. Guided by the Holy Spirit, the writers of the Bible explained the Truth about God and His Son Jesus Christ. And guided by the Holy Spirit, we too can understand the Truth. And when we understand it, we need to hold onto the Truth.
