2015-06-08 - What Would a Face in the Crowd Say?
“Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock. But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell with a great crash.” (Matthew 7:24-27)
The people and all Jesus' twelve disciples settled in to listen to the son of a carpenter. Jesus demonstrated the difference between a foolish person and one who is smart. The illustration shows me that those who ignore or twist God's ways, are left to their own devices. A wise man doesn't escape storms, even though the Lord is on his side. The difference is the wise man is prepared for life's upheavals, and not affected by them, because he has Jesus as his rock. It is amazing to believe that Jesus has this amazing God-like power. If you just go by physical appearances, Jesus is indeed a mere man, but take my word - from someone who has seen and listened to Him. He can be trusted. His words will ring true. I have never heard someone talk with such conviction and knowledge.
Who would pass on a firm foundation for tiny pieces of worn rock? Seems like a no-brainer to me. And yet there are those in the world who insist on doing it their way, complete with the pitfalls. But why? Is it hard to break a habit, too comfortable in the familiar, stubbornness, or a combination of all three? Whatever the reason, it seems pointless to act unwisely.
Lord, Please get me off this merry-go-round. I am tired of going in circles. I need Your guidance. Show me what You have in store, 'cause it's got to be better than living like this. In Jesus' name I pray, Amen.
