[Calvary Chapel] 2015-05-07 - Our Light in a Storm

- - - - - - -

Matthew 5:14 You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden;

This is an interesting phrase - the light of the world. John the Baptist identified Jesus as the Light of the World (Matt 4:16-17) as Jesus came to be baptized. Here the Lord has turned to those who had followed him to hear what He would say. He tells the gathered people that they are the light of the world. He ascribes the same phrase John ascribed to Jesus to the people listening. The Lord by His words and deeds showed for the light of God's love and truth. We are to do the same being lights to those around us.

Lately I have not felt like one of the lights of the world. I have felt far more like a candle in a hurricane. It does not change the reality of God's love and mercy in my life that should be available for others to see. The storm will pass though right now it's difficult. How I cope with the storm is visible to others.

One of my friends at work often reminds me, "Be of good cheer!" I'm sure many will agree it's not always easy to be cheerful. Jesus left the Holy Spirit as the down payment of the amazing things to come and a witness to us. Think on these things and pray for one another. None of us should think they are in a storm alone.

Grace & Peace,
