[CF Devotionals] 2015-03-12 - Almost There

Isaiah 50:7 For the Lord God helps Me, Therefore, I am not disgraced; Therefore, I have set My face like flint, And I know that I will not be ashamed.

Some will recognize the title borrowed from a Christmas carol. The lyrics speak to Mary as she nears the delivery of her child, Jesus. Her waiting for the arrival of this unique, unplanned child was almost over. As Jesus approaches Jerusalem He knows the ultimate purpose of His mission also comes closer with every step.

After Jesus and His disciples ate the supper that evening, Judas left to betray his Master to the scribes and Pharisees, Jesus would tell Peter that Peter would deny Jesus, Jesus would beg the Father that if there were any other way to destroy sin and death - to save mankind from eternity without God - other than going to the cross and becoming the perfect Passover Lamb … Of course there was no other way. As our Lord sweat blood He obediently agreed to follow the will of the Father over His own will. This is a picture of our own surrender to Jesus.

This and many more things happened that night as the conclusion of every appointment from Jairus' daughter was raised to where water was turned into wine at Cana was a step closer to the Golgotha. As the evening concludes He is almost there.

For today mentally stop at the cross just before victory. Walk through the path that Jesus walked up to that point, all so that He could show us the heart of the Father, and pay the price that we could never have paid. Understand that our King died for us, because there was no other way.

From: Almost There

You're almost where the journey ends
Where death will die and life begins
The answered prayer, Emmanuel
You're almost, almost there

Thank You, Jesus. Thank You for showing us the heart of God, willing to touch sin when You had known no sin and willingly taste death to save Your creation, because You love us that much. Amen.

Grace & Peace,
