2015-03-23 - What Would Adah Say?
Lamech married two women, one named Adah and the other Zillah. “Adah and Zillah, listen to me; wives of Lamech, hear my words. I have killed a man for wounding me, a young man for injuring me. (Genesis 4:19, 23)
I don't like sharing my husband. What woman does? I've never discussed it with Zillah, my husband's other wife, but it's not the ideal for me or my children. Leave it to Lamech, to go against God's wishes and make up his own plan. Ugh.
On the positive side, we have some talented and intelligent children. My two sons Jabal and Jubal, such hard-working and focused individuals. I am proud to be their mother.
I am trying to keep my boys from knowing the rage and ego living in their father. I do not want them to be disillusioned, I want them to have a good upbringing, as long as possible. That is difficult, with Lamech boasting about killing a younger man because the man hurt him. I am not sure if Lamech was injured physically or emotionally. He felt justified in ending this fellow's life. It is unfathomable for me to understand my husband's calculating stance, and the extreme vengeance, due to his heartless and cold-blooded act. Did Lamech actually expect his family to be proud? He doesn't know us very well. I certainly don't like whom Lamech is becoming. I pray the Lord can change him, because I certainly can't. I must keep my faith from wavering, and believe better days are ahead.
Lord, It's easy for me to get discouraged. Please help me stay focused on You and not my circumstances. I know You are worthy of praise. You are magnificent and love me greatly. I praise You, Lord, for wanting good things for my life. I thank You for defeating evil and tearing down strongholds. In Jesus' name I pray, Amen.
