[CF Devotionals] 2015-03-04 - Step Out and Off the Wire

- - - - - - -

I'm reminded of a group of mourning doves I saw one day, while sitting at a stoplight. The first thing that occurred to me, as they took off and made circles and then came back to the wire, was that they never stray far from their comfort zone. I thought of how I do that when left to my own devices. But then, it later also became clear to me that they return to that power line faithfully, and that's not all bad. We need to always return to our source of power, to get us ready for our next flight, but not be afraid to take off and go to where we are needed.

More recently, I have been faced with the fact sometimes we are asked to land for a while, which spiritually is still taking off, when those actions are following his will. So I have landed, and am where I am supposed to be for the time being, and counting on his strength to make it through and serve as he intends. He is always my source of power, and his promises are always true.

“Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.” (Hebrews 11:1)

“But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed.” (James 1:6)

“The Lord is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer; my God, my strength, in whom I will trust; my buckler, and the horn of my salvation, and my high tower.” (Psalm 18:2)

“It is God that girdeth me with strength, and maketh my way perfect.” (Psalm 18:32)

“Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O Lord, my strength, and my redeemer.” (Psalm 19:14)

“That ye be not slothful, but followers of them who through faith and patience inherit the promises.” (Hebrews 6:12)
