2015-01-26 - What Would Gideon Say?
When the angel of the Lord appeared to Gideon, he said, “The Lord is with you, mighty warrior.” (Judges 6:12)
I am a mighty man of valor. Funny, I don't feel that way. Maybe later on in life, I will be bestowed with that honor, but not until the Midianites leave us alone. What do mighty men of valor do anyway?
My family doesn't see me as courageous. They have never seen any potential in me. Now, in an instant, after an angelic being told me of my hero status, I am beginning to believe. To be completely sure, there was only one thing to do, ask God for a sign, something impossible for mere man to do.
God is indeed powerful, and can be trusted. There can be no doubt now. God has bestowed valor upon me. I imagine He will make me do something, with all this courage.
I knew it. God has a special assignment for me. I am to tear down the idol the people around here worship. It will not be an easy task to say the least.
Sure, the people are doing wrong, but why have me destroy the nasty image? Certainly the Lord could do it a lot more quickly, more easily, and more safely, with His power. No problem for Him, but me? I'll do it - but at night, to avoid being seen. No sense losing my life for being obedient, right?
Lord, Was life just a lie up to this point? How can I be sure? Show me how You see me, and may I live up to my potential. In Jesus' name I pray, Amen.
