2014-11-29 - The Big Shopping Day
Hebrews 13:5 "Your life should be free from the love of money. Be satisfied with what you have, for He Himself has said, I will never leave you or forsake you."
The day after Thanksgiving is one of the busiest shopping days of the year. People camp out for days in advance, to retail stores and wait to get inside for the big sales. In the past, wild stampedes of shoppers have led to injuries. Some people shop all day. As the saying goes, "They shop til they drop." The trend now is for stores to open on Thanksgiving Day itself, forcing their employees to report to work on the actual holiday. There is so much focus on money and material things.
The writer of Hebrews addresses the focus on money in today's verse. There are three things we can do with our money - save it, spend it, or give it away to others. A balanced life does all three. We are called to be wise stewards with everything we have, and that includes money. After all, everything we have is on loan from God.
