2014-11-13 - Little Children
1 John 2:1 [ Christ Is Our Advocate ] My little children, I am writing these things to you so that you may not sin. And if anyone sins, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous;
John becomes the father figure to his church family. Christ in the gospel of John speaking to His disciples calls them little children (John 13:33). John takes up this endearment as he pens his epistles, and I imagine as he speaks to those present with him. Six times in his first letter he uses this gentle address those read and hear.
John's words are direct and clear - words of instruction, warning, and encouragement.
1 John 2:12 I am writing to you, little children, because your sins have been forgiven you for His name's sake.
John became a clear mirror reflecting the love of the Father, just as Jesus reflected God's love to everyone who He encountered. This should be our goal to in the process of becoming more like Him.
Go get your Bible and find the other three nuggets of encouragement to God's children.
Jesus - The simple idea that You see us who struggle and stumble through our days and still You love us some much as to call us Your children. You speak of lost sheep and of the shepherd that leaves the 99 to fine the one that is missing. That one was me! Forgive me when I lose sight of your protection and encouragement. Remind me that trials are the refining polish that clears the reflection of You I present to those around me. Thank you for loving me. Amen.
