[CF Devotionals] 2014-07-30 - Side Effects

- - - - - - -

Anyone who has had to take medication for any reason knows something about side effects. Personally, I try to know any that are serious red flags when taking something, but the entire list of things you can be warned about in the insert coming with your prescription, is too much for me to try and process, without somehow having most every one of them. This week, however, just for the sake of trying to amuse myself, I decided to read more thoroughly the possible side effects listed with a medication I am trying for migraines. It says "may cause dizziness, drowsiness, and the inability to sleep". What does that even mean? Then another part of the information states "in the event of any of these side effects, please get medical assistance: unconsciousness ………." Well, ok. But how can I call for help, if I am unconscious? While reading some of this and giggling, I thought about the "Saturday Night Live" skits they put on years ago, with this same type of information about medicines, yet the ridiculous factor was well off the charts. Now we see commercials with those ridiculous lists of things to consider, and they are not a skit. It amazes me how all of that has changed, in the last twenty years or so.

I am relieved that nothing about my Father in Heaven has changed, nor will it. And the side effects of him in my life will always be things that are good for me. It may not always feel like it in every moment, sort-of like trying a needed new medication, but he promised me that all things are for my good and to glorify him. I can always count on that to be true. What a blessing!!!!

And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose. (Romans 8:28)

And my God will meet all your needs according to the riches of his glory in Christ Jesus. (Phil 4:19)

The Lord will rescue me from every evil attack and will bring me safely to his heavenly kingdom. To him be glory for ever and ever. Amen. (2Tim 4:18)

But rejoice inasmuch as you participate in the sufferings of Christ, so that you may be overjoyed when his glory is revealed. (1Peter 4:13)

And the God of all grace, who called you to his eternal glory in Christ, after you have suffered a little while, will himself restore you and make you strong, firm and steadfast. (1Peter 5:10)
