2014-03-17 - What Would Cleopas
Say?
Luke
24:13-51
Then their eyes were opened and they recognized him, and
he disappeared from their sight. (Luke 24:31)
Jesus had just been crucified, and I and another follower of Jesus were walking
to the village of Emmaus. While we walked, the two of us talked about
Jesus arrest and crucifixion. I could talk about a safer topic like
the weather or scenery along this long hike, but I did not. Perhaps talking
about Jesus death was my way of coming to terms with the heartbreak.
Suddenly a stranger began walking with us, and asked what we were discussing.
I told our new walking companion (a.k.a. Jesus) all about Jesus miracles,
and His high regard by God and some men. I could not believe this man had
not heard about the Messiahs tragic death. I went on to tell Him an
astonishing tale. Some of His disciples were saying that Jesus body
was missing from the tomb, and angels had said He was alive! I wasnt
easily convinced. Our new traveling companion reminded me what the Scriptures
say about the Lord. I had no idea He was talking about Himself.
Later on, we realized who He was. It was Jesus. Instantly, He wasnt
a stranger after all. It was amazing! As quickly as our realization came,
Jesus was gone. He disappeared. The things I could have asked Him, if only
I knew, if only I saw the man for who He really is.
Lord, Its easy to follow You when its
convenient, or if the right people are around. Somehow thats not enough
anymore. I dont want to spend another day without You, so please give
me the right thoughts and desires, so I may remain guilt-free, and can help
others who have been tormented just like I have been. In Jesus name
I pray, Amen.
