2013-12-30 - What Would a Shepherd
Say?
Luke
15:4-7
Suppose one of you has a hundred sheep and loses one
of them. Does he not leave the ninety-nine in the open country and go after
the lost sheep until he finds it? (Luke 15:4 NIV)
Counting to 100 isnt as easy as it sounds. How about counting 100 sheep?
That is part of the job as a sheepherder. A shepherd has to recheck for accuracy
and consistency sake but then there comes a time when he may lose his place,
or a sheep moves and its wide tail gets in the way and he ends up counting
the same animal twice. Then the shepherd starts the counting process again
till all the sheep are accounted for. A shepherd needs to be thorough, patient,
and caring.
These animals are constantly in my view so if one sheep is in trouble I can
call out and aid in its rescue. Its an awful feeling when one of the
sheep strays. If I dwell on the fact and feel guilty, I will be no good to
the other animals. Feeling badly wont bring back the lost sheep. That
lost one consumes me until I find it. When one is found and comes home to
join the others, I rush to tell my friends the great news.
Thank You, Lord for being our shepherd.
