2013-12-02 - What Would Zeresh
Say?
Esther 7:3-10, 9:5-10
His wife Zeresh and all his friends said to him, Have
a gallows built, seventy-five feet high, and ask the king in the morning
to have Mordecai hanged on it. Then go with the king to the dinner and be
happy. This suggestion delighted Haman, and he had the gallows built.
(Esther 5:14 NIV)
Never did I imagine my advice to Haman, my husband would cost our family
their lives. I encouraged Haman to have Mordecai pay for his disrespect by
building a gallows for Mordecai. I did not fathom the dreadful possibilities.
Instead, I focused on living for the moment, mending Hamans jilted
ego and what others thought. My friends and I were set on shallow things.
When it was discovered that Haman was plotting to wipe out the Jewish people,
he was killed. My boys lost their father and experienced a one-parent home
until the people took revenge on Hamans failed plot and killed our
ten sons.
Practically speaking Haman got what he deserved. What about our sons? They
were innocent of the plot. Looking back, I wonder if they could have helped
appease their fathers pride in a different way?
Lord, Let Zeresh be an example how choices effect things
and at times have powerful and unexpected outcomes. Help me to think before
I speak. May my words hold no consequences as I commit my thoughts unto You.
In Jesus name I pray, Amen.
