2013-11-18 - What Would Eunice
Say?
2
Timothy 1:1-6
I am reminded of your sincere faith, which first lived
in your grandmother Lois and in your mother Eunice and, I am persuaded, now
lives in you also. (Verse 5)
I made sure Timothy knew about God from an early age. I made a conscious
effort to share my faith with my young son. I was following in the footsteps
of my mother Lois, who started teaching me about the Lord at an early age.
The impact of this motherly teaching was seen by others. Paul thanked God
for the training that my mother and I gave to Timothy in Godly things. As
an adult, Timothy was encouraged by the apostle Paul to not lose sight of
his upbringing. That foundation would prove important in his life. Timothy
traveled with Paul on missionary journeys, and tended to the apostle while
Paul was imprisoned.
I remember teaching Timothy Bible verses while he was still an infant. Normally,
Jewish boys were not formally studying the Old Testament Scriptures until
the age of five. But I started earlier, committed to bringing God alive in
my young sons life. It wasnt a waste of time. It had significance,
just as your commitment will.
Lord, show me how and when to start teaching my child
about You. May he be perceptive and hungry for learning. Set the groundwork
for what You would have my child to become. In Jesus name I pray,
Amen.
